The Miniature Donkey Stud Volume of the United kingdom is the only register created solely for the Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys in this country and was opened several years ago to ensure the purity of this special brood of donkey in Great britain.

The Stud Book has iii sections: ID Register: Full general Register and Studbook Register.

The vast majority of the Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys in the UK are recorded within our Stud Book. We are able to investigate the ancestry of donkeys registered with us and frequently provide pedigrees of at to the lowest degree 3 generations and sometimes beginnings dating back to the first imports into the U.s.a. in 1929! Some of the donkeys registered with us have over 400 traceable recorded ancestors. This information is vital for improving the breed and avoiding inadvertent in-breeding. It is therefore also well-nigh important that all new foals are registered to record their lineage for futurity years.

Miniature donkeys (inside the 36″ summit specification) only with only one generation of recorded pedigree may also be registered in our general register, and their offspring upgraded over ii generations. This is in fact simply equally important to ensure hereafter generations tin can be monitored and so that their Miniature Mediterranean status can be proven.

The Miniature Mediterranean Donkey Association maintains a stud book for Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys.

This Stud Book is divided into 3 registers, some with sub sections.

• Identification Register (ID)
• Full general Register (G)
• Stud Register (SB)

Sub sections in the Identification Register are –

• donkeys with ane Miniature Mediterranean parent,
• donkeys that have grown over 36" or accept failed to achieve minimum peak.
• donkeys produced by inbreeding.

NB (Foal Registration numbers for such donkeys have ID afterward the number eastward.g. 508- ID. The certificate is greyness and stamped 'Identification Register'.)

Sub sections in the Full general Annals are –

• foals awaiting maturity.
• geldings.
• donkeys not entered into Stud register.
• donkeys lacking iii generations – grading up (Grand Improving).
• inspected donkeys grading up.

Sub sections in the Stud Register are –

• foundation donkeys pre 2003.
• donkeys with 3 generations.
• donkeys with two stud registry parents.
• inspected donkeys
• Registration rules for Eu bred donkeys

All Eu donkeys have to exist micro chipped before registration

At birth

• donkey foals who are produced by inbreeding (see glossary) get into ID and may not grade upward.
• donkey foals with only one registered parent go into ID merely the next generation, that volition therefore accept two generations are eligible for the grading up register.
• all other foals who take two registered get into General registry – sub section foals

At three years (bodily historic period) –

• all males confirmed equally geldings and of correct size (see glossary) receive Full general registry certificate.
• donkeys that take grown over 36" get into the Identification registry
• donkeys with missing generations (see glossary) and correct size go into improving section of the General registry

NB Slap-up grandparents qualify with only a registration number and proper name. The name demand non have a prefix.

NB These donkeys can exist inspected by a vet as suitable for breeding.

Donkeys that are eligible can be entered into the Stud Registry

to be eligible 3 year olds must be

• nether 36"  (minimumrecommendedheights are 28 inches for male and 30 inches for jennies).  It is recognised that miniature donkeys are not fully grown at iii years of age.
• and take a three generation pedigree or accept both parents in Stud  Register

and if a stallion,

• to be inspected by a vet as suitable for breeding

NB Great grandparents authorize with but a registration number and name. The proper name demand not have a prefix.

Registration rules for Foreign bred donkeys

In addition all must have been Dna typed for parentage and be micro chipped before leaving the state of origin.When applying for MMDA registration the relevant foreign pedigree registration certificate must be supplied
